Careers at Connex
Connex was founded on the belief that we could create a truly great company. The first question we had to answer, is what makes a company great and what are the components that go into creating a great company?
The most important three factors we identified in building a great company consisted of:
To us, it seemed obvious that true success and greatness must -first and foremost - stem from developing and maintaining the right culture. A culture is an environment in which certain values and behaviors are normal, and the absence of a healthy and constructive culture makes it difficult or even impossible to find and attract good people. Without good people it is impossible to build a business that truly delivers exceptional services and builds long-term relationships with Clients.
To define what kind of company we wanted to create and therefore what kind of people we needed to attract, we identified several key principles that we believe reflect our core values and would enable us to build a truly great company. Those principles are:
- A commitment to excellence - The constant drive to improve and get better. This implies a constant change and evolution that drives innovation and personal growth.
- Truth is the foundation of excellence - We believe that truth, accuracy and openness are essential to achieving excellence. That is because unless we understand how things really are, then it is impossible to accurately assess how to make them better.
- Transparency - Transparency enhances truthfulness because it prevents the secretiveness that breeds hidden agendas that stand in the way of open debate.
- Personal Accountability - Nothing is achieved without people being properly aligned and being willing to do whatever it takes to meet their responsibilities.
There are many different types of people and many ways in which they can be great. Three important ways in which people are different are:
Their values - which are very deep seated beliefs that motivate behavior which include things like honesty, work habits and motivations
Their abilities - which encompass the way a person thinks and behaves and includes characteristics like good common sense, being a fast learner and having an assertive personality
Their skills - which are the tools people acquire like using a computer or learning a language
At Connex we have a strong emphasis on finding people whom above all else value the intense pursuit of excellence, and by extension rapidly improve themselves and the company. So we want them to be self-reflective, extremely truthful and transparent. We want them to value a community of like-minded people and be willing to go the extra mile to get the job done with their exceptional work ethic. Finally, we want them to value the place they choose to build their career and have a sense of community and fun that they bring to the workplace reflected in how they treat and interact with their fellow employees.
Long-Term Client Relationships
The ultimate value of an organization to society can be best measured by its ability to win and keep its Clients. For an organization like Connex, our long-term success rests upon the ability of our people to deliver tangible results to our Clients. Over the long run, this requires us to constantly question and critique our services in order to maintain a rapid rate of evolution that drives improvement. It is only by doing this that we can maintain our competitive advantage and continue to offer a truly unique value proposition to the marketplace. By focusing on excellence we are able to drive constant, rapid and measurable improvement in our services that drives real and tangible results for our Clients. This in turn creates a positive feedback loop where Clients not only value our services enough to keep on using them but also to take the time and provide feedback that they know will be listened to, evaluated and be part of the evolutionary process: a classic win-win.
